Implantable Neuroproesthetics Lecture

On the 16th of November, 10 year 11 students including myself, attended a lecture by Dr Iasonas F. Triantis from the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, City University London The lecture he gave was entitled, "Implantable Neuroprosthetics: Talking with Neurons for Diagnosis and Therapy". The lecturer spoke about how electronics can help people with paralysis and even people with mental disorders such as bipolar. We were also able to view new research (only 5 days old) which showed how new electronic developments were able to restore leg movement in a formerly paralysed patient, something that was thought to be impossible before then. The lecture inspired all of us to consider a career which will allow us to be creative as well as articulate, which is what bioengineering is all about. After the lecture we all left spell-bound and excited about the prospect of going into something as meaningful as bioengineering. We are grateful that Ms Krunic and Mr Patterson gave us the opportunity to go to this lecture and we hope to go to many more!
